Barriers to eLearning - Interesting Resources

Summary: Identifies and categorizes barriers to eLearning adoption and the impact of those barriers on learners. Three key factors cited as barriers to eLearning: the nature of eLearning as a learning approach, the use of technology, and concerns about lack of time and potential interruptions when attempting to finish eLearning. Reference to past studies noting difficulty in concluding eLearning is more, less or equally effective at the learning level that classroom-based training.  More a case that individual or organizational context will determine the most effective methods of providing learning opportunities in the workplace. Literature review of eLearning advantages and drawbacks. Study concludes that the primary issue for organizations to address is the perception of eLearning.  For example, it is important to reassure users about the nature of eLearning and deal with concerns over validity and usefulness of eLearning and provides ways for learners to engage activity with the material.

One of the interesting statistics from this presentation is that according to research done by "Towards Maturity Benchmarking Practice Report", 91% of L&D and HR professionals seek to improve performance management through the use of learning technologies by only 20% achieve this. Key barriers to eLearning include: no experience of self-learning, resistance to change and managing it, lack of attractive, relevant and high-quality eLearning, lack of knowledge about its potential use and implementation, and logistical issues.
